When I was young I can remember my parents bringing home a painted street-scape by Maynard Waters. The Australian artist had captured the Brisbane street with such intricate detail that I could sit and look at the painting for hours.

Ever since seeing that painting I've wanted to create incredibly detailed work, and in early 2010 an opportunity came along to capture one of Sydney's most iconic intersections.

The Five-ways intersection is located only a couple of blocks from Paddington's Oxford Street and as such is a fantastic place for hobbyist anthropologists to come for a quiet coffee and a little inspiration.

In January 2010, I meandered through the area thinking about a series on Australian contemporary life and wondered if I could gain access to the rooftop overlooking the fantastic intersection that would later become my theatre.

Two weeks of sourcing characters, location access, equipment and numerous recces we were ready to shoot.

Equipped with an Arca-Swiss M-Monolith 6x9 and a PhaseOne P65+ back courtesy of L&P Foto (Sydney, Australia) we began shooting the background plates and character shots.

The final image is a crop of three 65 Mega-pixel plates stitched together. Further compositing from around 50 images brought in the various artefacts & characters which adorn the five-ways theatre.
